In 2013 the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services succeeded in accomplishing its mission to serve both the farmer and consumer. The department's 20 divisions and 2,000+ employees helped to make their goals a reality. In 2013 the Meat and Poultry Division inspected and passed a total of 289.2 million pounds of meat and poultry products, and inspected a total of 436,333 heads of livestock. A record number of 162,013 pounds of pesticides containers were collected through the department's Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program. This beats the 2007 record by more that 2,300 pounds. This program allows both farmers and homeowners to dispose of their unused pesticides in a safe way by managing and supervising the collection and lawful disposal of banned, out-dated, or unwanted pesticides.

In addition to the services that the department offers here at home, our marketing division has worked hard to allow for the exportation of agricultural products to 209 countries internationally, which accounted for a $3.3 billion sector of the agriculture industry.
