McIntyre announces over $1.7 million to support new biofuel facility

U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre (NC-7) announced today that the City of Clinton has received $1,758,150 to construct water and sewer infrastructure to support the new Chemtex cellulosic biofuel plant in the City of Clinton.
Congressman McIntyre stated, “Good quality water is vital to every home and business! These federal funds will help bring water services to the new state-of-the-art biofuels plant in Clinton and help us create jobs in the local community! Congratulations to all who have worked to receive these funds, and it is good to see our taxpayer dollars coming home to make a difference!”
McIntyre stated that Congress has appropriated, and the United States Economic Development Administration has awarded, a grant of $1,758,150 to construct water and sewer infrastructure for the new cellulosic biofuel plant in the City of Clinton. This project will utilize energy grasses to be grown by local farmers and produce up to 20 million gallons per year of ethanol and bio-based chemicals, which will reduce levels of greenhouse emissions. The project is anticipated to create 65 jobs created and leverage $90 million in private investment. Total project cost is $3,516,300.
Last year, Congressman McIntyre pushed the Administration to approve Arundo Donax as a feedstock for producing next-generation biofuels. Congressman McIntyre’s efforts to secure approval of this particular energy grass were critical to the future success of the Chemtex facility’s production process. The feedstock was approved in June 2013.
Congressman McIntyre is a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee.
