Investigators are looking into the possible causes of two fires that killed at least 27,000 birds in North Carolina Monday and severely damaged an unoccupied chicken house in Delaware over the weekend.

The fire Monday at Tom Moore Farm near Kelford, N.C., essentially destroyed one of four chicken houses at the farm, killing most of the 28,000 chickens that each house contains, according to a report from WNCT-TV. The farm is a supplier to Perdue Farms Inc., which actually owns the chickens.

Meanwhile, a fire at an unidentified, unoccupied chicken house near Frankford, Del., on Sunday caused about $350,000 in damage, leaving the structure severely damaged, according to one report. There were no injuries reported in terms of people or chickens in the incident. Additional information on the owner of the chicken house was not available.
