Poultry farmers hoping to grow birds for Pilgrim’s Pride are asking county officials to reduce fees that would be required to install larger water pipes for their operations, according to a report by The News Courier.

Recently relieved of their seven-year contracts with Tyson Foods, the growers are looking to deal with Pilgrim’s. But Pilgrim’s would require water pipe upgrades that for which the local water authority would charge each farmer a $62,010 impact fee, the newspaper reported.

A local farmer addressed the Limestone County Water and Sewer Authority Board of Directors Thursday, arguing that the larger volume of water capacity Pilgrim’s requires would only be necessary a couple times a year and not tax the system any more than his operations already do.
