• Corn plantings are expected to total 860,000 acres in 2014, down 8% from 2013. • Cotton growers intend to plant 470,000 acres in 2014, 5,000 more acres than last year. • Flue-cured tobacco growers expect to harvest 181,000 acres in 2014, up 1,000 acres from 2013. • Burley tobacco growers expect to harvest 1,800 acres in 2014, down100 acres from last year. • Soybean plantings, at 1.7 million acres, are expected to increase 16% from 2013. • Peanut growers intend to plant 90,000 acres in 2014, up 10% from the planted acreage in 2013. • Sweet potato growers intend to plant 66,000 acres, 22% more than last year. • Hay producers expect to cut 770,000 acres in 2014, down 9% from 2013. • Winter wheat plantings totaled 830,000 acres, down 16% from last year’s record of 990,000 acres.
