The head of the Environmental Protection Agency said the delay in issuing new Renewable Fuels Standard regulations is due to the consideration the agency is giving to “concern about volumes and adjustment to volumes,” according to a report on DTN/The Progressive Farmer.

Gina McCarthy made her comments during a conference call with reporters. She said the RFS 2014 volume would be announced “soon,” the report said, but that “We’re just taking the time we need to make sure the [RFS] takes [the concerns] into account.”

The agency had indicated the release could come as soon as the end of June, but that deadline has come and gone, leaving open to a variety of interpretations as to what this delay could mean for the agriculture and ethanol industries, DTN/The Progressive Farmer said.
