Commissioner's Food Safety Forum set for Aug. 26

This year will mark the 10th year of the Commissioner's Food Safety Forum, which is scheduled for Aug. 26 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Expo Building at the State Fairgrounds. Admission is free.


The forum is the event to discuss the future of food safety with the nation's food safety experts, congressional delegation, industry leaders, regulators, public health officials, emergency management, and academia.


This year's featured speaker is David Acheson, president and CEO of The Acheson Group LLC. The main topic of discussion will be the affects that the Food Safety Modernization Act will have on international accountability, international trade and the importation of food products. Anyone who is interested in food safety is encouraged to attend. 


Following the forum, there will be a private screening of the James Moll documentary "Farmland" at 1:15 p.m.
