The U.S. Meat Export Federation last week hosted a Congressional delegation from Mexico to tour the U.S. meat production system.

The visitors included four congressmen and a high-level member of Mexico’s agricultural department, Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrolloa Rural, Pesca Y Alimentación (SAGARPA).

“These are all people who can influence policies in the livestock sector,” said Chad Russell, regional director for Mexico, Central America and the Dominican Republic.

Tour sites included USMEF’s headquarters in Denver, Colorado State University, a ranch, a feedlot and a meat processing plant, Russell said.

“We will hopefully during the trip show them all of the different sectors and also allow us to cement closer relationships,” he said.
