Russian officials reportedly are putting together a list of pork suppliers in China whose goods are expected to make up for the anticipated pork shortfall following the recent ban on pork imports from several countries, including the United States.

The Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service (VPSS) will allow pork imports from China in addition to the current vegetables and fruit, according to a report from ChinaDaily.com. The online news outlet also cited an Interfax news agency report and a Chinese official from the Chinese Academy of Social Science that China has a “well-developed pork processing industry” that exerts “strict quality control” on pork exports.

China is still a net importer of pork, bringing in an estimated 1.2 million metric tons annually, according to a report from the Dutch online news service Boerderij.
