In recognition of his long-time devotion and service to the people of North Carolina, Congressman Mike McIntyre has been inducted into the state's prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Announcement of his induction occurred at a district-wide appreciation celebration honoring McIntyre's Congressional service, held at the Southeastern Agricultural Center in Lumberton. 

Since its creation in 1963, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine has been presented to honor persons who have a proven record of service to the State of North Carolina. Congressman McIntyre's steadfast commitment to the needs of the people of Eastern North Carolina during his 18 years of public service in the U.S. House of Representatives earned him the honor of this induction into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. In receiving this award, Congressman McIntyre joins the ranks of other notable figures in North Carolina history who have also received this special recognition including: Maya Angelou, William “Bill” Friday, Billy Graham, Andy Griffith, Michael Jordan, Alexander Julian, Richard Petty, and Dean Smith.

The State of North Carolina inducted and Governor Pat McCrory authorized McIntyre to receive this special recognition. The presentation of the Order Long Leaf Pine award was the climax of the evening event, which included several tributes and a special video presentation of various highlights of McIntyre's representation of Southeastern North Carolina since his election in 1996. Elizabethtown Councilman, Ricky Leinwand, presented the official Long Leaf Certificate and pin to McIntyre. The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is the State's highest civilian honor.
