USDA reports on stocks of poultry, red meat in freezers

Total frozen poultry supplies on Aug. 31, 2014 were up 1 percent from the previous month but down 14 percent from a year ago, according to USDA’s latest Cold Storage report.


Total stocks of chicken were up slightly from the previous month but down 13 percent from last year. Total pounds of turkey in freezers were up 1 percent from last month but down 15 percent from August 31, 2013.


Total red meat supplies in freezers were down slightly from the previous month and down 7 percent from last year.


Total pounds of beef in freezers were down 6 percent from the previous month and down 20 percent from last year.


Frozen pork supplies were up 2 percent from the previous month but down slightly from last year. Stocks of pork bellies were down 29 percent from last month but up 136 percent from last year.
