Carolina Premium Foods plans to start producing chicken products at a revamped plant in Siler City, N.C., on Oct. 6, according to a report in the Triangle Business Journal.

The company, which will produce antibiotic-free, non-GMO chicken for wholesale, said it could staff 84 positions for two shifts at start-up in the former Townsend Chicken plant and aims to hire 200 people by next summer, according to the report.

Carolina Premium Foods received a $750,000 grant from the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority to revamp the plant and has indicated it would invest $4 million to renovate and equip the building with new production lines.
