Mexico’s agriculture department, SAGARPA, has published an updated rule for controlling toxic residues in products of animal origin, according to the North American Meat Association (NAMA). The rule’s predecessor is in the process of being canceled, NAMA said.
Mexico’s food safety agency, SENASICA, will regulate the presence of toxic residues in animal-origin products using an online query module, which will be harmonized with international regulations.
The new regulation also establishes a Mexican National Residue Program for meat, poultry, fish and other animal products, and establishes criteria for sanctions when violations occur.
The new rule will become effective in December.
