The World Trade Organization’s recent order for India to remove curbs on imports of U.S. poultry won’t soon create a steady flow of shipments there, according to reports and poultry industry executives.

India still has the opportunity to appeal the order, and even if it does not do so, a poultry industry executive told Meatingplace, the country is refusing to issue import licenses and still won’t allow entry of U.S. poultry.

Those comments jibe with a story in the Economic Times, reporting that India appears ready to defend against what it fears would be the U.S. dumping frozen chicken legs in the Indian market.

The poultry industry believes that U.S. exports to India could be worth more than $300 million per year if India fully opens it doors.
