Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-02) released the statement below following her vote in support of H.R. 5682, legislation to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline.

“The Keystone Pipeline is just one more example of bipartisan House-passed legislation that has been stuck in the Senate awaiting action. For six years, the American people have watched our president stall an opportunity that would provide a much-needed boost to our economy, produce new job opportunities and reduce dependency on Middle-Eastern oil. But time and time again, the Obama Administration found a way to put politics ahead of jobs—more than 42,000 altogether—and instead, prioritize government intervention and costly regulation over the needs and priorities of the American people.”

“I am proud to have voted in favor of this legislation today, and I will continue to seek solutions that will bolster our economy and strengthen national security. I look forward to the Senate finally taking up this legislation for a vote next week, and I remain optimistic that this bill will cross the finish line.”

On Friday Nov. 14, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5682, a bill to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline, by a vote of 252-161. This legislation authorizes the construction, connection, operation and maintenance of the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Congresswoman Ellmers has been a long-time supporter of the Keystone XL Pipeline and was an original co-sponsor of H.R. 3, the Northern Route Approval Act.
