N.C. Coastal Resources Commission will meet Dec. 17 in Beaufort

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission, or CRC, will meet next week in Beaufort to discuss inlet management, land use planning, rule development and other issues.
The CRC will meet at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 17 at the NOAA Auditorium, 101 Pivers Island Road, Beaufort. The meeting is open to the public.
Items on the CRC’s agenda include:
• Rule Development – Staff with the state Division of Coastal Management will present a fiscal analysis for proposed rule amendments to 15A NCAC 7H. 1500 General Permit for Excavation of Upland Basins, which would streamline permits associated with upland boat basins. The CRC also will discuss alternatives to the static vegetation line rule, beneficial use of dredged material in inlet areas, and occasional flooding criteria in the commission’s coastal wetlands rules.
• Static Line Exception Reauthorization – The CRC will consider a request from the Town of Ocean Isle to reauthorize the town’s static line exception.
• CRC Science Panel – The CRC Science Panel chairwoman will present updates on the panel’s draft reports on sea level rise and inlet hazard areas.
• Inlet Management Study – The commission will hear an update on the status of a study regarding the expansion of dredging windows.
• Variances – The CRC will hear one request for a variance from its rules.
• Land Use Planning – The commission will consider certification of a land use plan for the City of Southport, and of an amendment to the land use plan for the Town of Carolina Beach.
• Public Hearing – The public may comment on proposed amendments to 15A NCAC 7K .0208 Single Family Residences Exempted, which would amend adjacent property owner notification requirements to streamline exemptions for single-family residences in the Estuarine Shoreline Area of Environmental Concern.
• Public Input and Comment – Members of the public may comment on CRC issues at 11:45 a.m.
The Coastal Resources Advisory Council, a group that provides the CRC with local government perspectives and technical advice, will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the NOAA Auditorium.

The Coastal Resources Commission establishes policies for the N.C. Coastal Management program and adopts rules and policies regarding coastal development within areas of environmental concern.
