Today, Congresswoman Adams announced her plans for the President’s State of the Union address.  To mark the occasion, Congresswoman Adams will host a series of events that highlight her top priorities for North Carolina’s Twelfth Congressional District.

On Tuesday, Adams will meet with Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx to discuss transportation priorities for the Twelfth Congressional District.  Adams stated, “In preparation for my meeting I met with various leaders from Charlotte, Huntersville, and Greensboro and we all agree that transportation and infrastructure are critical to the continued growth and development of the entire district.” Adams further stated, “Continued investments in transportation and infrastructure projects will allow our communities to thrive while creating much needed jobs here at home.”

For the State of the Union, Congresswoman Adams will host North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University sophomore, Taquawn Rorie.  Rorie is majoring in engineering and previously attended Guilford Technical Community College.  Rorie’s story inspired Adams to draft her first bill, The STEM PREP Act.  This bill will make science, technology, engineering, and mathematics a core part of the Career and Technical Education Act and move towards the comprehensive inclusion of the Arts in STEM education.  “Unemployment is a serious issue impacting our district, which is why we must invest in job training that actually leads to jobs.  This bill will provide competitive grants to career and technical education programs that focus on training for the STEM field.”  Adams further added, “Many jobs in the STEM field do not require four year degrees and my bill will create a pipeline to fill these jobs.”

Tuesday will be Adams’ first State of the Union Address since being sworn into office in November.  She was just appointed to serve on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

As a result of Adams’ early achievements while in office, the New York Times will feature her during their coverage of the State of the Union.   The New York Times will shadow Congresswoman Adams throughout the day.
