The Southeastern N.C. Agricultural Events Center will host a horse and tack auction on Monday, Feb. 2, in the Pavilion.

The auction is the second in a series being held on the first Monday of each month in 2015. The first auction, on Jan. 5, attracted a crowd of nearly 900 buyers and sellers from several states.

“Tack was sold for two hours, and more than 100 horses were auctioned during the night,” said Laurie Wood, marketing specialist for the center. “The event has generated a lot of interest. We hope to be able to host this great event beyond 2015.”

Used tack will be auctioned at 4 p.m., followed by new tack at 5. The horse auction will begin at 7 p.m. Tack will be provided by Andi’s Wholesale Tack in Newton Grove. Horse sales will be handled by auctioneer Brad Stephens of Morganton.

Parking and admission are free for spectators. People selling registered horses will pay a commission of 8 percent of the sales price plus $25. Sellers of grade horses will be charged a commission of 8 percent, with a minimum of $20. A negative Coggins test is required on all horses. There will be a 20-percent commission on used tack brought to be sold.
