Take note: From farm to fork, this is the week (eight days, actually) designated — albeit informally — for celebrating all things meat, or, at least, BBQ. The Meat Week festival first was brought to life 10 years ago via social media.

Started by a couple of guys in Tallahassee, the idea has taken root in a baker's dozen of major urban areas, each of which has a "captain" or two who take responsibility for choosing and making arrangements for a meal at a different restaurant, usually focusing on BBQ, for each night. This year the non-BBQ side trips include hitting the food trucks in Charlotte, Johnnie's (for Italian beef) in Chicago, and the Famous 4th Street Deli (think: corned beef) in Philadelphia.

The meat movement has a social media life as well, with chefs and BBQ grillmasters posting videos and recipes online. You can follow the action on Twitter at #MeatWeek, or follow the organization at @MeatWeek.
