Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-02) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 596 – a bill to repeal and replace the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

“Obamacare has been nothing but a costly disaster to constituents in the Second District of North Carolina and across our country. This law was sold under the guise that it would improve our access to quality healthcare, but the reality couldn’t be further from the truth.”

“I am proud today to vote in favor of H.R. 596 as it will repeal Obamacare, and I will continue to work with my colleagues to prioritize and advocate for patient-centered reforms.  I look forward to continuing these discussions within the Energy & Commerce Committee and working to provide a replacement plan that allows for patients and doctors to be the real decision-makers.”

H.R. 596 was introduced by Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL-01) on January 28, 2015. This legislation will repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and other health care-related provisions in the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010. Including four budget votes taken by House members, the House has voted on seven pieces of legislation to fully repeal of Obamacare.
