Commissioners with Sampson County (N.C.) have approved a project by Kansas City Sausage Co. LLC to reopen a shuttered meat processing facility, the Fayetteville Observer reported.

Kansas City Sausage, based in Kansas City, Mo., is one of the country’s largest manufacturers of sausage raw material and private-label sausage. It has operations in Kansas City and Des Moines, Iowa.

It recently acquired Martin's Abattoir and Wholesale Meats, which ceased operations Sept. 16, 2013, to provide the company with expanded slaughter operations in North Carolina, as well as an expanded product line. The facility is expected to employ 100-150 people and process 700-1,000 sows daily.
