The Charlotte Regional Farmers Market has a new market manager. Amie Newsome, a former Johnston County extension agent, became the first female full-time manager of the market. She replaces Fred Cole, who retired in December.

In recent years, Charlotte has seen a dramatic increase in population. In addition, an increased demand for local food has led to the creation of more than a dozen farmers markets of various sizes in the Queen City. As market manager, Newsome will oversee the market’s transformation to better address the needs of the city’s changing population. We recently sat down with Newsome to talk about her first few weeks on the job and her goals for the market.

Check out the video below for her insights on the importance of direct-to-consumer marketing in sharing agricultural traditions with a new generation of consumers.

The Charlotte Regional Farmers Market is one of four state-operated farmers markets in North Carolina. The market is located at 1801 Yorkmont Road and is open year-round.
