NC farmers intend to plant more corn, less cotton & tobacco in 2015

• Corn plantings are expected to total 870,000 acres in 2015, up 4% from 2014. 

• Cotton growers intend to plant 375,000 acres in 2015, down 19% from last year. 

• Flue-cured tobacco growers expect to harvest 175,000 acres in 2015, down 9% from 2014. 

• Burley tobacco growers expect to harvest 1,300 acres in 2015, down 7% from last year. 

• Soybean plantings, remained unchanged from 2014 at 1.75 million acres. 

• Peanut growers intend to plant 94,000 acres in 2015, unchanged from the planted acreage in 2014. 

• Sweet potato growers intend to plant 75,000 acres, up 2,000 from last year. 

• Hay producers expect to cut 850,000 acres in 2015, up 2% from 2014. 

• Winter wheat plantings totaled 750,000 acres, down 10% from last year. 

*Planting intentions as of March 1. Actual plantings may change based on weather, input costs, commodity prices, etc. and will be reflected in the Acreage report released June 30.
