Bird Island Reserve Local Advisory Committee to meet April 22

The Bird Island Coastal Reserve Local Advisory Committee will meet at 3 p.m. April 22 at the Sunset Beach Town Hall, 700 Sunset Boulevard North, Sunset Beach.
The committee of local residents, partners and leaders provides staff with the Division of Coastal Management’s Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve guidance and feedback regarding management of the reserve.
The Bird Island Coastal Reserve is part of the N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve Program, which protects natural areas for education, research and compatible recreation. Since its creation in 1989, the program has preserved more than 42,000 acres of unique coastal environments at 10 sites along the coast.
