North Carolina June farm report

Sweet Potato growers intend to plant 75,000 acres, up 2,000 acres from last year.
Corn plantings are expected to total 870,000 acres in 2015, up 4% from 2014.
Peanut growers intend to plant 94,000 acres in 2015, unchanged from the planted acreage in 2014.


CHICKEN EGGS
South Atlantic Region: Broiler-Type eggs in incubators on March 1, 2015 totaled 247,020,000. The total was up 2% from the March 1, 2014 total of 243,145,000 eggs. The total number of Egg-Type eggs in incubators on March 1, 2015 increased slightly from 4,031,000 eggs in 2014 to 4,049,000.


SOWS FARROWING
North Carolina producers intend to farrow 430,000 sows during the March–May 2015 and 445,000 during the June–August 2015 quarters.


PIG CROP
The State’s pig crop during the December 2014–February 2015 period totaled 4.18 million head, up 14% from the same period last year.


PIGS PER LITTER
The number of pigs saved per litter averaged 9.5, which is up from the 8.4 pigs saved during the same quarter last year.
