N.C. food companies compete for honors

Three Got to Be NC specialty food companies are finalists in a national industry competition.
The SOFI Awards are the top honor in the $109 billion specialty food industry. The awards, now in their 43rd year, received 2,715 entries across 32 award categories.


Kitchens of Africa, a Raleigh producer of African-inspired sauces and marinades, was named a finalist in three categories:
Zanzibar, a tamarind simmer sauce, and Mombasa, a curry simmer sauce, are competing for top honors in their categories. Kitchens of Africa is also a finalist for Best Product Line.


Sunburst Trout Farms, the first commercial trout farm in the South, is a finalist in the “Classic” category with its Original Rainbow Trout Caviar. 


Charlotte’s Race City Sauce Works is competing for the top honor in the salsa category with its Deadwood Eulogy Verde Taco Sauce. 


The NC Specialty Foods Association awarded top honors to three companies during its spring conference.
D’Vine Foods of Elizabethtown won a blue ribbon for its Mild Chow Chow. 
A blue ribbon went to Anna’s Gourmet Goodies of Raleigh for its Big Chocolate Brownie. 
America’s Best Nuts took top honors for its smoky spiced peanuts, Wingnuts.
