Consumers wants additive-free foods, including meat, because they perceive those goods as "healthier" and "tastier," according to a new report from Technomic Inc.

In the research firm's "Consumer Connect 2015: Attitudes Toward Additives" video, using data drawn from its Consumer Trend Report, Technomic explains that more than 60 percent of consumers believe natural meat is healthier, and 43 percent choose additive-free food and beverage because of better health. Furthermore, 73 percent say that antibiotic-free foods are healthier.

The perception extends beyond just additive-free options: 30 percent of consumers say GMO-free foods are tastier, and 21 percent think that additive-free means better taste.

Consumers say they'll pay more for those options, as well. One-third say they'd be willing to pay more for GMO-free proteins, and about 40 percent of consumers would pay more for antibiotic-free proteins.
