The Piedmont Research Station may partially fill a revenue hole in some local farmers’ budgets, created by a drought that’s lowered projections for corn yields across Rowan County. During a drought-focused meeting on Wednesday, the research station announced it would purchase up to 800 tons of corn from local farmers as a result of sharply lower rainfall totals in 2015.
