Duke Energy has chosen the Electric Power Research Institute to perform a state-required study on potential commercial uses for coal ash. The state of North Carolina instructed Duke (NYSE: DUK) to obtain a comprehensive study of the coal-ash recycling market and available technologies as part of the N.C. Coal Ash Management Act passed last year in response to the Dan River coal-ash spill.
