Honeybee Day at the State Farmers Market will educate the public on the importance of honeybees, one of nature’s most important pollinators, through entertaining and informative exhibits. In addition, local vendors will be on hand to sample and sell their honey-based products. Beekeeper associations from Orange and Wake counties, Bailey’s Bee Supply, the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Structural Pest Control and Pesticides Division, Toxic Free NC, N.C. State University, The Carolina Bee Company, Honeygirl Meadery, and Phanton FX Face and Body Art will participate. Saturday, Aug. 22 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. State Farmers Market 1201 Agriculture St. Interstate 40, exit 297 Pollinators, including honeybees, butterflies, moths, beetles and birds, are critical to the state’s $76 billion agriculture industry. Nearly a third of all food consumed can be attributed to the work of pollinators. The State Farmers Market is a one-stop source for agricultural products grown, raised, caught and made in North Carolina. Vendors offer a variety of seasonal produce, flowers and plants, fresh meats and seafood, wines, cheeses and other specialty products.
