Japan on Friday lifted part of its ban on imports of live poultry and poultry meat from the United States and Canada put into place after the avian influenza outbreak in spring, Reuters reported.

Imports from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, Kansas, Arkansas, Montana and Indiana as well as British Columbia can resume.

Restrictions remain on live poultry and poultry from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska, and Ontario, the article said.

A new ban was imposed on imports from New Jersey from within six miles of farms where low pathogenic, avian flu was discovered, the news agency said.
