State environmental officials will hold public hearings next week for the draft National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System stormwater permits for the Dan River Combined Cycle Station and the Rogers Energy Complex (formerly Cliffside Steam Station).

As part of the public feedback process, the department will hold a public hearing near each facility to gather input on the draft permits. The public hearing for the Dan River Combined Cycle Station stormwater permit is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Eden Town Hall, 308 East Stadium Drive, Eden. The public hearing for the Rogers Energy Complex stormwater permit is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Boiling Springs City Hall, 114 East College Ave., Boiling Springs. Speaker registration for both hearings begins at 5 p.m.

The N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources drafted NPDES permits for stormwater discharges at the Dan River Combined Cycle Station, and the Rogers Energy Complex that are available with related documents online at: http://portal.ncdenr.org/web/guest/duke-npdes-permits.

Public comments on the stormwater permits should be mailed to: Stormwater Permitting, 1612 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C., 27699-1612.

Public comments may also be submitted via email to: publiccomments@ncdenr.gov. Please be sure to include either “Dan River” or “Rogers” in the email’s subject line depending on which permit is being addressed.

The public comment period for the Dan River Combined Cycle Station permit ends Sept. 8. The public comment period for the Rogers Energy Complex permit ends Sept. 12. All comments received by the comment period closing date will be considered in the final determination regarding permit issuance and permit provisions.

Public comment periods for the facilities’ wastewater permits will be held at a later date when those draft permits are complete.
