A new website set to launch next week will offer small and very small meat processing operators a one-stop-shop resource for building food safety programs, the North American Meat Institute Foundation (NAMI) announced here yesterday at its Pathogen Control and Regulatory Compliance in Beef Processing Conference.

The online “manual” is a first of its kind in that it will scrape from a wide number of online resources and websites, including those of USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the latest information and make it searchable in one site. The goal is to better help processors either build food safety programs from the ground up or enhance their existing programs.

At the most basic level, the website will provide links to documents and materials that processors can use to help make or support decisions, as well as example programs and templates that can be used or adjusted to meet the specific operation.
At a more advanced level, users can, for example, create their own libraries of research and set up alerts based on certain keywords.

NAMI stressed that all of the information on the site will have been approved by USDA.

The website, funded by Beef Checkoff dollars, is expected to go live by the middle of next week after some additional testing. The specific URL will be announced when the site is fully functional.
