August crop report: North Carolina crop production down in 2015

Corn for grain
• Yield is forecast at 110 bushels per acre, down 22 bushels from last year’s yield of 132 bushels per acre. 
• Production is forecast to total 84.7 million bushels, down 18% from last year. 
• Harvested acres are forecast at 770,000 acres, down from 780,000 acres from 2014. 


Cotton
• Yield is forecast at 891 pounds per acre, down 147 pounds from the 2014 record yield of 1,038 pounds per acre. 
• Production is forecast at 705,000 bales, down 29% from last year’s production of 995,000 bales. 
• Harvested acres are expected to total 380,000 acres compared with 460,000 acres harvested in 2014. 


Peanuts
• Yield per acre is forecast at 3,800 pounds, down 500 pounds per acre from the 2014 record of 4,300 pounds. 
• Production is forecast at 338 million pounds, down 15% from last year’s production. 
• Harvested acres are projected at 89,000 acres, down 4,000 acres from 2014. 


Soybeans
• Yield is forecast to average 33 bushels per acre, down 7 bushels from last year’s record yield of 40 bushels. 
• Production is forecast to total 60.4 million bushels, down 14% from last year’s production of 69.2 million bushels. 
• Harvested acres are projected at 1.83 million acres, up 6% from last year.
