The State Farmers Market will celebrate N.C. Wine and Grape Month with a special Grape Day event. Visitors can enjoy free wine tastings from local wineries, as well as sample fresh grapes, grape jellies, jams, smoothies and juices. Grape Day is hosted and sponsored by the N.C. Wine and Grape Council, the N.C. Muscadine Growers Association and the State Farmers Market. Friday, Sept. 18 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. State Farmers Market 1201 Agriculture St., Raleigh Interstate 40, exit 297, Lake Wheeler Road North Carolina’s wine and grape industry contributes $1.71 billion dollars to the state’s economy and employs nearly 8,000 people from the mountains to the coast. The state is home to 159 wineries and 525 commercial grape growers. More information about North Carolina wine is available at www.ncwine.org. The State Farmers Market offers a large selection of agricultural products grown, raised, caught and made in North Carolina. Late-summer produce is still available, as well as fall favorites such as apples, grapes and pumpkins. The market also has a variety of plants, shrubs and trees for fall plantings.
