Humane Society International has launched its Meatless Monday campaign in Mexico with the release of a video narrated by Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez.

A list of Mexican actors, musicians, chefs, food companies and other campaign supporters attended a recent kick-off event for the Lunes sin Carne initiative in Mexico City.

The campaign asks Mexican consumers to reduce their meat consumption by choosing meatless meals one day a week.

“Current levels of meat consumption in Mexico support inhumane factory farms, where animals are treated like machines and endure extreme suffering — and cause enormous environmental problems. Eating less meat is better for animals and also creates less waste and pollution,” television personality Marco Antonio Regil said in a news release for the campaign.
