US Rep. Walter B. Jones: Eastern North Carolina update

Last month, I called on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to meet its statuatory mandate to perform an assessment of the maintenance dredging needs along the Atlantic and Gulf Intracoastal Waterways.  Maintaining the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway at its authorized depth is important for the economy of Eastern North Carolina and the southeastern United States. Clogged waterways mean lost jobs.  This report will help all stakeholders better understand the needs going forward. The senior leadership of the Corps needs to get on the ball and follow the law so those needs can be addressed.

I am also calling for Gina McCarthy, Administrator at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to step down for committing perjury on more than one occasion this year when testifying to Congress about the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule the EPA invented and that took effect last month.  The EPA has been out of control for a long time.  It is unacceptable that the EPA administrator lied under oath to Congress in trying to cover up the fact that the WOTUS rule is not based on sound science.  I'm glad that the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals decided to block the WOTUS rule this month.
