Agricultural and agribusiness law is the topic of a new textbook written by a North Carolina State University professor considered one of the nation’s pre-eminent experts in the topic.

Ted Feitshans, an extension professor and director of distance education for NC State’s Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, wrote “Agriculture and Agribusiness Law: An Introduction for Non-Lawyers” as an overview of legal topics for those with little or no legal background.

The book covers a range of topics, from contracts to conservation and environmental law. It is, according to the publisher Routledge, aimed at helping readers “appreciate and identify issues which may require referral or consultation with legal counsel.”

Feitshans has been on NC State University’s faculty since 1987. As an extension educator, he is a frequent speaker on the topic of agricultural and environmental law and has developed a number of publications and web-based materials on the topic. A member of NC State’s Academy of Outstanding Teachers, Feitshans also teaches courses on agricultural law as well as environmental law and economic policy.

In October, Feitshans received the 2015 Excellence in Agricultural Law Award at the American Agricultural Law Association Education Symposium in Charleston, S.C.

Feitshans holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Cornell University, a master’s in agricultural and applied economics from the University of Minnesota, and a law degree from Georgetown University.
