An Energy Policy That Works for All Americans
I have long advocated for an all-of-the-above energy policy that harnesses all of our nation's vast resources with the goal of reducing energy costs for all Americans. This week the House passed three pieces of legislation to help do just that. We began by passing two resolutions disapproving of President Obama's attempts to regulate our energy industry by legislative fiat. S.J. Res 23 and S.J. Res 24 disapprove of EPA rules that block the construction of new coal-fired power plants and establish unachievable emission limits on existing plants. Later in the week, the House passed H.R. 8, the North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act which modernizes and secures our nation's energy infrastructure.

Fiscally Sound Reforms to Our Highway System
Following passage of the education rewrite, the House continued work on bipartisan and bicameral compromise legislation with House approval of the conference report for the five-year highway bill, also known as the FAST Act. This fiscally sound legislation was the result of bipartisan negotiations between members of the House and Senate and, when signed into law by President Obama, will mark the first time Congress has passed a multi-year highway bill in a decade. As I previously highlighted in this space, the highway bill includes important reforms which empower state and local governments to have greater control over how transportation funds are spent. Additionally this bill guarantees funding for much-needed improvements to our nation's road and bridges, ensuring we can all feel safe when on the road.
