The animal activist organization Mercy For Animals (MFA) today re-released undercover video footage that the group says shows "extreme cruelty and violence” taken at a “Tyson Foods slaughterhouse.”

Re-edited using "a compilation" of other video footage released this summer, the video is narrated by actor Alec Baldwin, an MFA spokesperson told Meatingplace. The video shows birds having their heads removed while still alive, and chickens being shocked with electricity but remaining fully conscious when their throats were cut during processing, according to the release.
MFA has sworn out a series of affidavits against Tyson Foods Inc. and six workers in Justice Court in Leake Co., Miss., related to animal handling issues they said an investigator recorded on video while working at a Tyson plant.

The spokesperson added that the latest compilation video represents the addition of Baldwin to the cause of convincing Tyson to change its slaughterhouse practices and those of its contract suppliers.

MFA also is renewing its call for Tyson to “replace live-shackle slaughter methods with less cruel Controlled Atmosphere Killing systems.” The video also calls on consumers to “eat less chicken” from such Tyson clients as McDonald’s, KFC and Chick-fil-A to protest the scenes depicted in the videos.

Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson said, in an email sent to Meatingplace, "This is a compilation of video released months ago that our company has already condemned and addressed. The farmers shown no longer raise chickens for Tyson Foods and plant workers shown mishandling birds have been fired. We’re committed to raising healthy chickens and making sure they’re treated properly."
