Three countries update poultry export requirements

USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has updated its poultry export requirements for Japan, Ukraine and the Republic of Macedonia
Following are updated requirements for exporting to Japan:
• Wisconsin - Poultry slaughtered on or after March 16, 2015, but prior to Dec. 11, 2015, which originated from or passed through or is slaughtered/processed within the State of Wisconsin, is ineligible. Within the state, poultry slaughtered on or after Dec. 11, 2015, is eligible.
• Minnesota – Poultry slaughtered on or after Feb. 5, 2015, but prior to Dec. 11, 2015, which originated from or passed through or is slaughtered/processed within the State of Minnesota is ineligible. Within the state, poultry slaughtered on or after Dec. 11, 2015, is eligible.
• Missouri – Poultry slaughtered on or after Feb. 12, 2015, but prior to Dec. 11, 2015, which originated from or passed through or is slaughtered/processed within the State of Missouri is ineligible. Within the state, poultry slaughtered on or after Dec. 11, 2015, is eligible.
• North Dakota – Poultry slaughtered on or after March 18, 2015, but prior to Dec. 11, 2015, which originated from or passed through or is slaughtered/processed within the State of North Dakota is ineligible. Within the state, poultry slaughtered on or after Dec. 11, 2015, is eligible.
• Nebraska – Poultry slaughtered on or after April 19, 2015, but prior to Dec. 11, 2015, which originated from or passed through or is slaughtered/processed within the State of Nebraska is ineligible. Within the State, poultry slaughtered on or after Dec. 11, 2015, is eligible.

Following are updated requirements for exporting to Ukraine:
• Minnesota – Poultry and poultry meat products derived from birds originating from the State of Minnesota on or after March 5, 2015, but prior to Dec. 10, 2015, are ineligible. Poultry and poultry meat products derived from birds originating from Minnesota on or after Dec. 10, 2015, are eligible.
• Wisconsin – Poultry and poultry meat products derived from birds originating from the State of Wisconsin that were slaughtered on or after April 11, 2105, but prior to Nov. 26, 2015, are ineligible. Poultry and poultry meat products derived from birds originating from Wisconsin and slaughtered on or after Nov. 26, 2015, are eligible.

Following are updated requirements for exporting to the Republic of Macedonia:
• South Dakota (Moody County) – Poultry and poultry products derived from birds originating from Moody County, S.D., slaughtered on or after May 18, 2015, but prior to Dec. 13, 2015. Poultry and poultry products derived from birds originating from Moody County and slaughtered on or after Dec. 13, 2015, are eligible.

Although the recent changes in export requirements indicate some recovery for the American poultry industry in the wake of the 2015 avian influenza outbreaks, exports continue to be affected by trade bans, the strong U.S. dollar and weak economic conditions in export markets due to the decline in energy prices.
