Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-02) issued the below release following House passage of H.R. 3762 - Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act. This is the Senate-passed reconciliation bill which will send a repeal of Obamacare straight to the president’s desk:

“Since I was first elected to represent the 2nd District, I have promised to work for a repeal of Obamacare. My Republican Colleagues and I have assured Americans that we would slash the national deficit, push back against the president’s liberal agenda and defund Planned Parenthood. Today’s legislation is the first time ever that a full bill to repeal Obamacare will head straight to President Obama’s desk. I’m very proud to relay that today’s vote again delivers on all four of these promises.”

“The Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act will gut Obamacare and reduce our nation’s deficit by $516 billion dollars – for perspective, that is over 1,146 times larger than today’s Powerball Lottery jackpot. Ultimately, this repeal of Obamacare will reset the American people on pathway towards an affordable, patient-centered alternative to the president’s deteriorating healthcare law.”

“We are five years into this disaster known as Obamacare, and the only tangible results have been skyrocketing premiums and canceled plans. By way of the Affordable Care Act, North Carolina is facing some of the steepest health insurance rates in the country—with premium hikes increasing as much as 50 percent for some plans this January. I predicted these results when I first ran in 2010 – they were unacceptable then and they are unacceptable now.”

“The bottom line is that families across the 2nd District and America as a whole deserve a truly affordable healthcare plan—one that offers them flexibility and greater choice. I look forward to continuing my work with House Republicans to provide those I serve with an exit strategy, and an alternative, to Obamacare. We owe it to the American people to provide lower costs and higher quality healthcare.”
