Authorities in Scotland have launched biosecurity measures around a poultry farm on the outskirts of Dunfermline that initial tests indicated is a low pathogenic strain, according to the BBC.

After establishing a 1-kilometer (0.62-mile) control zone around the affected farm, officials are concerned that the disease could spread to surrounding areas. The zone restricts the movement of poultry, carcasses, eggs, and manure and limits the possibility of birds being placed in proximity of one another, according to The Independent. Authorities have also ordered the humane culling of the birds at Craigies Poultry Farm this week, although the number of affected birds was not disclosed.

The latest confirmed outbreak of avian influenza is one of three reported in the United Kingdom in 2015 in addition to several outbreak reports across continental Europe, according the BBC. Officials added that the risk to humans is considered very low.
