The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality will hold a public hearing on a proposed water quality permit for Duke Energy Progress’ Asheville Steam Electric Plant on Jan. 21.

The hearing is being held to receive public comments on a draft industrial stormwater discharge permit for the electrical generating plant, which is in Buncombe County. Wastewater discharges from the facility are covered under a separate water quality permit.

The public hearing will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 21 at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College’s Ferguson Auditorium, 340 Victoria Road, Asheville. Speaker registration will begin at 5 p.m.

The draft stormwater permit and related documents are available online at: http://portal.ncdenr.org/web/guest/duke-npdes-permits. Printed copies of the draft permit and related documents may be reviewed at the department’s Asheville Regional Office, 2090 U.S. 70 Highway, Swannanoa.
