USDA buys chicken, solicits turkey for food assistance programs

USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) purchased more than 4 million pounds of chicken products Jan. 13 for distribution to the school lunch child nutrition and other domestic food assistance programs for fiscal year 2016.


Purchases were:
• Chicken Cut-Up Frozen CTN-40 LB (160,000 pounds)
• Chicken Oven Roaster Frozen 8 Piece CTN-30 LB (1.58 million pounds)
• Chicken Whole Bagged Frozen CTN-36-43 LB (2.34 million pounds)


Deliveries will be made from March 16 through June 30.
Also on Jan. 13, AMS announced plans to purchase turkey and turkey products for school lunch and other domestic food nutrition assistance programs under a long-term program. Offers will be invited pursuant to the AMS Master Solicitation for Commodity Procurements dated April 2015 and Amendment 1 dated June 2015 for young turkeys in one or more of the following forms:

A Solicitation will be issued in the near future for deliveries from March 1, 2016, through February 28, 2017, and three months for Option 1 from March 1, 2017, to May 31, 2017. A separate announcement will be made for ongoing (monthly) turkey and turkey product purchases (to include bulk). Offers to sell these products must be received not later than the date specified on the solicitation.
