To commemorate National Agriculture Day, the NC State University Libraries and the Center for Environmental Farming Systems are co-hosting a free screening of The Last Barn Dance on Tuesday, March 15, at 7 p.m. in the D.H. Hill Library West Wing Auditorium. The film chronicles Alamance County dairy farmer Randy Lewis’ fight to save his business in an economy that has decimated most other family farms in the county.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., attendees can learn more about small farming and agricultural extension in a display drawn from the NC State University Libraries Special Collections Research Center. Banjoist Lily James, a student at Sanderson High School, will perform a selection of songs from the barn dance tradition.

Following the film, there will be a discussion with Jason Arthurs, the film’s director and producer, as well as John Day, the military partnership coordinator for NC Growing Together, and Randy Lewis, the farmer featured in the film.
