The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it would delay enforcement of a menu labeling rule requiring restaurants and other retailers to post nutrition information until it provides final guidance on the regulation.

In July, the agency had pushed back the compliance date to Dec. 1, 2016.

The new delay is due to language in the U.S. appropriations bill enacted on Dec. 18, FDA said in a statement on its website.
FDA said enforcement is now delayed until one year after it issues final guidance on the labeling, which requires posting of calorie and other nutrition information on menu items.

Draft guidance was issued in September. FDA said it would issue final guidance as soon as possible, after considering all public comments.
