Mexico has resumed imports of Canadian fresh poultry meat after easing a ban imposed in 2004 due to an out break of influenza, Canadian announced Thursday in a news release.

Canadian officials estimate that restored access to the Canadian market for chicken, turkey and — most significant in terms of historical trade, duck — will be worth some $3 million per year.

Mexico maintains limited AI restrictions, but the Canadian government said it is negotiating to have those removed.

The move follows a February meeting between Mexico’s Secretary of Agriculture, Jose Calzada and Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lawrence MacAulay to discuss their countries’ agricultural trade.

Canada and Mexico traded nearly $4 billion worth of agriculture and food products in 2015.
