North Carolina farmers intend to plant more corn, less cotton & tobacco in 2016

• Corn plantings are expected to total 930,000 acres in 2016, up 18% from 2015.
• Cotton growers intend to plant 290,000 acres in 2016, down 25% from last year.
• Flue-cured tobacco growers expect to harvest 160,000 acres in 2016, down 6% from 2015.
• Burley tobacco growers expect to harvest 950 acres in 2016, down 5% from last year.
• Soybean plantings, expected to total 1,700 acres in 2016, down 7% from 2015.
• Peanut growers intend to plant 95,000 acres in 2016, up 6% from 2015.
• Sweet potato growers intend to plant 105,000 acres, up 21% from last year.
• Hay producers expect to cut 830,000 acres in 2016, up 7% from 2015.
• Winter wheat plantings totaled 490,000 acres, down 25% from last year.
