WHQR, a Wilmington public radio station that covers southeast North Carolina, is planning to take an in-depth look at North Carolina's pork industry in a four-part series beginning on Wednesday, April 27. The series will be part of CoastLine, a live news program that debates important issues with expert guests and listener calls.

The series is expected to begin with a broad overview of the pork industry, touching on issues ranging from the industry's economic impact on North Carolina to environmental concerns that have been raised by the Riverkeeper Alliance and others. Subsequent shows are expected to focus on issues involving animal care, water quality and alternative waste management technologies. A program on the state's poultry industry is also planned.

To prepare for this series, WHQR has spoken with the NC Pork Council, NC Farm Families, major hog production companies and individual growers. In addition, they are speaking with organizations and individuals that have been critical of hog farms.
You can listen to the broadcasts at 91.3 FM or online at WHQR.org. Please consider calling in with questions and comments (910-343-1138) that will help us tell the positive story of how hog farming benefits North Carolina.
